Your results will be available to your doctor about 2 weeks after your tumor sample arrives at the Exact Sciences lab.* Your Recurrence Score® result shows how likely your cancer is to return in 3 years for stage II patients and 5 years for stage IIIA/B patients. You and your doctor can discuss the score (along with supporting information provided) and how it may affect your treatment choices.
Understanding your Colon Recurrence Score® results
Your Colon Recurrence Score results appear in a report that gets sent to your doctor. The report provides your individualized Recurrence Score result as a number between 0 and 100. A low score means there is a lower chance that the cancer will return, and a high score means there is a higher chance for a recurrence.
Distribution of Recurrence Score Results (0-100)
Low | High |
A lower Recurrence Score result means: your cancer is less likely to come back |
A higher Recurrence Score result means: your cancer is more likely to come back |
You and your doctor can use this information to help plan your treatment options together. It’s important to understand that a low Recurrence Score result does not mean there is no chance your colon cancer will return. And a high Recurrence Score result does not mean your colon cancer will definitely return. So, your treatment decisions still depend on your unique situation and personal preferences.
